Shaping the Future of
Breast Cancer Research
IBDW convenes world-leading researchers, clinicians, and program leaders to share groundbreaking research and advance breast cancer detection and prevention.
A Global Platform for Breast Cancer Science
Since 2002, IBDW has brought together a critical mass of researchers to productively share ideas and advance this vital field.
Inclusive Community
As an international forum, IBDW embraces diversity, welcoming participants from varied scientific backgrounds and career stages.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Oncologists, radiologists, epidemiologists, and basic scientists engage with industry partners to foster innovative approaches.
Networking Opportunities
Forge new collaborations and exchange insights with peers from across the world at organized networking events.
Cutting-Edge Research
Presentations on pioneering work in breast density measurement, quantitative imaging, and risk assessment methodologies.
A Workshop That Works Differently
The 12th IBDW introduces a bold new format — built for collaboration, designed for impact, and shaped by you.
Lightning Talks — Every Accepted Abstract
For the first time, every accepted abstract takes the stage: one slide, 90 seconds. No parallel tracks — the whole community hears every presentation, then connects in dedicated poster lounge sessions.
The Risk Board — Live Priority Setting
Participants close the workshop by ranking the field's most urgent open questions in real time using the Risk Board — a live interactive polling board. The result: a community-owned research roadmap shaped by everyone in the room.
What Attendees Say
This conference deals with many aspects of screening, especially for young women with dense breasts… This is a very important issue to solve and I wish for people, especially for women, to get the chance to have happiness… My dream is to overcome breast cancer all over the world.
It's the best meeting I've ever attended… I meet the people that I collaborate with. I meet new acquaintances… There's much to take home from here. There are several studies going on right now that were initiated at IBDW.
Attending conferences like this allows me to have those really unique connections with people and be able to discuss their work. I'm able to dive deeper and also inform my work from their knowledge.
Letter from the Co-Chairs
The Importance of IBDW and Hawaiʻi as Our Venue
The International Breast Density and Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Workshop is a biennial scientific meeting dedicated to advancing breast density research, imaging biomarkers, and breast cancer risk assessment models. This workshop brings together leading researchers, clinicians, and program leaders from top academic institutions, industry, and government agencies to share cutting-edge research and collaborate on improving breast cancer detection and prevention.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths for women in their 50s in the U.S., and the Pacific Islands face unique cancer disparities due to geographic isolation, healthcare access challenges, and distinct population genetics. Hosting the workshop in Hawaiʻi ensures that experts from across the country and the world engage with these critical issues firsthand and collaborate with researchers and healthcare providers addressing cancer disparities in Pacific populations.
By gathering in Hawaiʻi, we foster global collaboration and develop more accurate breast cancer risk models, no matter the region of the world. As a historical nexus between East and West, Hawaiʻi has long been a meeting place for people and ideas from across the globe. This spirit of connection extends to IBDW, where past meetings have led to international partnerships dedicated to advancing breast cancer research for all populations.
